In 2024, what is the true cost of surviving? Could you put a figure on what your household needs to survive on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis?
More to the point, what happens when your income falls short?
When the sums just don’t add up, how can you make ends meet, especially during a cost-of-living crisis that shows no signs of abating?
At Sheffield S6 Foodbank, we’re shining a light on the true cost of surviving for families all across the city. From rent and mortgages to food and hygiene products, debt payments, gas and electric, school holidays, digital access, and more, we’ll be sharing the daily decisions that people across Sheffield make to simply survive.
That’s the reality of life for so many of us, especially for the 1500+ people that we support every week in our foodbank centres; that’s the cost of surviving.
Daily, we hear from people who have to choose between paying their energy bills, repairing the washing machine, buying new shoes for the kids, or putting food on the table.
And the problem is only getting bigger.
Each month for the next year, with the help of our amazing corporate supporters, we’ll be raising awareness of the issues that many of our guests are struggling with, and rallying support. Together, we can make a difference.
Along with providing emergency food, your support enables our trained volunteers and partner agencies to provide support with debt, benefits claims, budgeting, housing, employment, and signposting for mental health and wellbeing.
Because hunger and foodbank use is rarely just about food. It’s about surviving.
Can you support us by donating money, raising awareness, or partnering with us? Thank you for all you do!
