3 Peaks Challenge: conquered!

5th June 2023

Thank you to Nicola, Pete, Emma and Richard who completed the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge in May, raising money to support us, and two other charities.

Here’s Nicola’s story:

“We had a guide for the walk called Sam, who we lovingly nicknamed Sadist Sam as he pretty much marched us up and down the peaks! We were wondering whether he used to be in the marines, it was hardcore. The morning started early at 6am with mist and little bit of drizzle where we were marched up the first peak Ingleborough in the superhuman time of 1 hour. The views were absolutely….non-existent due to the fog (LOL). Then onto Pen-Y-Gent, the morning got a little brighter, we de-layered, scoffed some snacks and up we went. A bit of a scramble up some rocks towards the top and……more fog! A short 5 minute sit down to sort out our boots and on we went. It must have been at least 10 miles walk to the third peak Whernside but the weather got brighter, sunny, blazing hot and blue skies. Of course, no one had thought to bring any suncream given that all our training walks had required raincoats so suffice it to say, we all got rather sunburnt. Emma was sporting some spectacular strap marks on her back by the end of it, Pete had a very red face and neck, thankfully Richard’s head was saved by his cap and I had a perfect white watch strap mark and a bright red nose. Whernside felt never ending and our guide Sadist Sam’s words “sugar and water, sugar and water” still echo in my brain from that last push to the top but we did it. The boys finished slightly ahead of Emma and I completing the challenge in 10 hours 5 minutes, I think they were eager for their first victory pint! We weren’t far behind though and finished in 10 hours 12 minutes.

We’ve split the money raised equally between our charities so we would like to present you with a donation of £441.16 which I have submitted via the website.

We’re all residents of S6 and hope this goes some way to helping those in need in our community.”
